The two men who built the business
In 1931, Georges Braunschweig, scion of an important watchmaking family of La Chaux-de-Fonds and owner of Fabrique Election SA, and Fritz Marti, the manager of that company, established Porte-Echappement Universel SA, better known as Portescap SA, the name it adopted in 1963.
The two men who launched the Incabloc® industrial venture were contemporaries and electrical engineers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Their roles were clearly defined from the start. Georges Braunschweig took over the general management with financial and marketing responsibilities; he was and remained the boss of the company. Fritz Marti became technical director with this job description: “He will direct a major part of his activities to researching technical improvements and potentially profitable inventions. Any patentable invention will be in the joint name of the two contracting parties.”
